Last Thursday, the American Museum of Natural History held its 2013 Museum Dance. The theme of the evening was Under the Sea, in honor of the Museum's upcoming exhibition Whales: Giants of the Deep. As New York City's longest-running junior benefit, the Museum Dance brings together influential young philanthropists to celebrate and raise essential funds for the Museum's scientific and educational programs, which enable thousands of underserved New York City school children to visit the Museum annually. The event began with an intimate dinner and dessert followed by dancing for all. Music was provided by DJ Jus-Ske. Throughout the evening, there was a silent auction with luxury items from many of New York's most exclusive retailers including trips to Little Nell at Aspen, Miami, and Beaver Creek; NYC experience's to Bravo TV's Watch What Happens Live, Barry's Bootcamp, and Pure Yoga; handbags from Fendi, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, and Roberto Cavalli; and jewelry from Fred Leighton, Ippolita, and Kwiat. All funds raised from the event benefit the Museum's scientific and educational programming. The evening was sponsored by Roberto Cavalli. |

On April 3, American Friends of the Louvre and the Consulate General of France welcomed more than 100 guests at a reception in celebration of Henri Loyrette's accomplishments during his twelve year tenure as President-Director at the Musée du Louvre. His Excellency François Delattre, Ambassador of France to the United States, made remarks outlining the many projects which Mr. Loyrette brought to fruition while at the helm of the world's most visited museum. Christopher Forbes, Chairman of American Friends of the Louvre, gave personal reminiscences on his friendship with Mr. Loyrette since the organization was founded in 2004. Mr. Loyrette then spoke with great affection of his years at the Louvre including his great enjoyment of the many partnerships with American institutions. He also warmly thanked the board members of American Friends of the Louvre and the many members and donors present for their generous support of Louvre projects and initiatives. Philippe de Montebello spoke briefly regarding the subtle but meaningful curatorial changes Mr. Loyrette had made within the galleries of the Louvre, shedding new light on the collection. |
