Tributes to friends and colleagues

Last Tuesday, the Public Theater held its annual gala at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. They honored the late Nora Ephron, a long-time Public Theater board member and consummate lover of The Public's free Shakespeare in the Park. Meryl Streep paid tribute to their friend and colleague.

The benefit evening also included a concert performance of The Pirates of Penzancefeaturing Kevin Kline reprising his Tony Award-winning role of The Pirate King when it was first performed at the Delacorte in 1980. The cast also featured Glenn Close, Martin Short, Eric Idle, Jonathan Groff, Montego Glover, Anika Noni Rose, and Norm Lewis.

On June 12, 2013, Michael Kors hosted a private event at his Madison Avenue store (790 Madison Avenue) for members of the Couture Council of The Museum at FIT. Michael Kors is an alumni of the Fashion Institution of Technology and has been very supportive of the school throughout his career.

As the 60 guests spilled into the Kors' Madison Avenue store, the women all seemed to be on a mission to find an outfit from the collection. Before the Pre-Fall 2013 Presentation started Liz Peek(Chairman of FIT's Board) introduced Michael and congratulated him on behalf of the board for upcoming honor. Michael Kors will receive the Artistry of Fashion Award at the annual Couture Council Luncheon on September 4th at the David Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.

Many of the guests came to the event wearing the designer's clothes. To name a few: both 2013 Couture Luncheon Co-Chairs Kamie Lightburn& Jieun Wax wore pieces from the Pre-Fall 2013 collection; Yaz Hernandez(Couture Council Chair) wore a two-tone contrast –Panel Ponte dress; Alexandra Lebenthal wore yellow zipper dress; Kay Facatselis wore a black Off-The Shoulder top; Nancy Shaw wore an emerald green featherweight wool shrug with a sleeveless Wool-Crepe dress.

Michael Kors gave a 30-minute presentation of his Pre-Fall 2013 Collection about what inspired the collection. He also talked about what its means to true sport-wear designer. While explaining the 25 looks he also interjected with how the women could incorporate a piece of the look into their year round wardrobes. After the presentation he spent some time shopping with the ladies and gave some style tips on how to wear his clothing.

On Tuesday, June 11, 2013 City Parks Foundation (CPF) presented the City Parks Foundation Gala presented at SummerStage in Central Park, an annual fundraising event that supports CPF's free year-round arts, sports, education andand community-building programs. The event took place at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park, the main stage for CPF's famed free performing artsand festival, SummerStage.and

The gala and concert raised over $1 million dollars and was the largest single fundraising event in the history of CPF. The funds raised will go to support programs that benefit over 600,000 people annually in over 750 parks throughout New York City's five boroughs.

This year, CPF honored Bruce Ratner with the 2013 People and Parks Award.and Bruce Ratner is theandExecutive Chairman of Forest City Ratner Companies, one of CPF's founding trustees and its first BoardandChairman.

The concert paid tribute to the music of Frank Sinatra, featuring the legendary singer and musician's songs as performed by an eclectic group of well established musical legends and up and coming stars. Featuring an intriguing mix of Standards, Soul, Blues, Jazz, and Folk singers the evening of performances thrilled with exceptional interpretations of numerous classics from Sinatra's famed catalogue of songs. Artists included: John Pizzarelli and The Swing Seven, Andrew Bird, Marc Cohn, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Judy Collins, Bettye LaVette, John Legend, Aimee Mann and Ted Leo, Joan Osborne, Allen Toussaint, Suzanne Vega, and Loudon Wainwright III. The performance component of the gala was produced by Michael Dorf, who has successfully produced a series of similar tribute concerts at Carnegie Hall over the past decade.

Last Saturday afternoon, at the Wethersfield Estate in Millbrook, NY the outdoor set assembled for the runway presentation of the La Chasse collection: A new line of classic, ladies ready-to-wear founded and designed by Marion de Vogel and Rowena Gill. Models were both professional and resident beauties. The occasion was a fund-raising benefit to kick-off a campaign to build a Cross Country Schooling Course at the 1,200-acre estate for area professionals and their students to enjoy.

Guests got into the spirit of the fabled Jazz Age with flapper dresses, headbands, feathers, and mountains of sparkling jewelry for The Great Gatsby, Nassau County Museum of Art's 2013 Museum Ball. The lavish tented pavilions for the cocktail hour and dinner similarly evoked the extravagant décor of Long Island's Gold Coast history. The Museum Ball is the museum's major annual fundraising affair, raising significant support for exhibitions and educational programming.

The 2013 Ball was chaired by Museum Board Member Angela Susan Anton, the publisher and owner of Anton Community Publications. The Journal Committee was chaired by M. Patricia Janco-Tupper, senior vice president, wealth advisor for Wells Fargo Bank; and Rebecca Creavin, senior vice president, private banker for Wells Fargo Bank.
