| Last night's massive downpours and one of the worst East End traffic tie-ups in recent memory proved no match for the most eagerly anticipated event of the season, the second edition of Art Southampton, presented by Art Miami. The invitation-only preview reception of the premier contemporary and modern art fair in the Hamptons, benefitting Southampton Hospital, drew thousands of international collectors and art enthusiasts to the massive 100,000-square-foot pavilion Thursday evening.
Guests enjoyed Perrier-Jouet champagne and hors d’oeuvres by the Southampton Social Club while admiring the stunning display of precious jewels exhibited by sponsor Graff Diamonds. Equally impressive was the intimate outdoor cocktail lounge in which Maserati North America showcased their latest high-caliber automobiles, the Ghibli sports sedan and the all-new full-sized Quattroporte. Lucky attendees got the first look – and first dibs – on extraordinary artworks from over 90 of the world’s most prestigious galleries. Early reports indicated that sales were more than brisk, and there was serious interest in even one of the priciest works for sale, Roy Lichtenstein’s $19 million Woman with Peanuts. The New York Academy of Art partnered exclusively with Art Southampton on a special exhibition of works by renowned academy artists, curated by America’s foremost narrative painter and academy senior critic, Eric Fischl, to benefit The Academy’s scholarship fund. Also of great interest was a showcase of artwork by Ross School students, sales of which will benefit the Chamberlain-Fairweather scholarship fund, and a special reception at the Westwood Gallery booth to honor philanthropist and collector Henry Buhl, founder of ACE (Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless). Highlights of the evening also included painter and performance artist Kevin Berlin staging an eye-catching Alien Invasion, JonOne beginning work on an 8-by-12-foot wall mural, and iconic photographer Jerry Schatzberg revisiting his famous black-and-white photos of The Rolling Stones in drag and Bob Dylan as well as autographing copies of his two books, “Fashion 1950s” and “Paris 1962”. |

| From the outset, it was abundantly clear to both dealers and attendees that the level of quality of international contemporary art that Art Southampton offers – and in an extraordinarily elegant setting that allows each gallery’s work its own spotlight – was the major draw as word of mouth spread quickly among the Hamptons cognoscenti. Local media was quick to add their praise for the amazing assemblage of works. Art Southampton will continue through Monday, July 29, with a host of special events, including a special Andy Warhol exhibition and discussion led by his longtime friend Bob Colacello, a young contemporaries afternoon that includes a visit to the private collection of Theodore and Ruth Baum, a VIP interior design brunch, a book signing by famed fashion photographer Raphael Mazzucco, and a cocktail reception hosted by New York Academy of Art President David Kratz and Eric Fischl. |

| On the evening of July 20th, under the glow of a midsummer’s full moon, East Hampton’s museum, garden, and arts education not-for-profit LongHouse Reserve hosted its annual summer benefit gala, WHITE NIGHT. As anticipated, this year’s event, which was held in honor of internationally acclaimed Chinese contemporary artist and political activist Ai Weiwei, as well as architectural legend Richard Meier and famed patron of the arts, the late Lisa de Kooning, did not fail to entertain. Legendary textile designer and LongHouse Reserve founder Jack Lenor Larsen joined the Reserve’s illustrious Board of Trustees in welcoming artists, patrons, and art-enthusiasts alike to this glamorous garden affair that raised $420,000 for the organization. WHITE NIGHT was organized by LongHouse Reserve President Dianne Benson, Executive Director Matko Tomicic, Benefit Architect Committee members Preston Phillips and Lee and Jo Ann Skolnick, Board of Trustees including honorary chairs Martha Stewart, Edward Albee, Jeanne and Herbert Siegel, and Louis and Sandy Grotta. |

| At Saturday evening’s soiree, as guests enjoyed the seductive musical samplings of renowned saxophonist and founding Philip Glass Ensemble member, Dickie Landry, along with those of celebrated Iranian singer/composer, Sussan Deyhim, an impressive showing of artistic elite came to pay tribute to the evening’s distinguished honorees and LongHouse Reserve’s laudable work towards the advancement of art and arts education. Among them were Honoree Richard Meier and his wife Ana Meier, modernist painter Frant Stella, playwright Edward Albee, American artist Alice Aycock, whose latest sculpture was unveiled that night, sculpture artist Jack Youngerman, and avant-garde director and artist Robert Wilson. Along with the evening’s many artistic treats and temptations, LongHouse Reserve paired a decadent dinner with two exciting auctions: an art-filled silent auction along with a live auction conducted by CK Swett of Paddle 8. Though still unable to leave his country due to the his contentious run-ins with the Chinese Communist Party, honoree Ai Weiwei also greeted gala goers via special video appearance. The critically-acclaimed Elisa Monte and her dance company were also on hand, giving thrilling pop-up performances during an elegant cocktail hour in the gardens. |

| The James Beard Foundation honored award-winning TV personality, chef, food writer and teacher Andrew Zimmer at Chefs & Champagne, The Foundation’s annual fundraiser which took place in the Hamptons at the beautiful Wolffer Estate Vineyard. The sumptuous tasting party featured flowing Champagne, the wines of Wolffer Vineyards, and Culinary offerings from a select group of more than 35 renowned chefs, many from the JBF Award-winning restaurants. Among the Chefs were Food Networks Iron Chef’s Masaharu Morimoto and Alex Guarnaschelli. “I never thought my ‘bizarre’ culinary journey would include a stop in the Hamptons, where I will join the ranks of such prestigious past Chefs & Champagne honorees including Thomas Keller, Wolfgang Puck and Emeril Lagasse,” said Andrew Zimmer. “I am humbled by this recognition. |
