On Thursday, August 22, the elegant Parisian pop-up picnic, Dîner en Blanc, Philadelphia took place for a second year. John F. Kennedy Boulevard, approaching 30th Street Station, was this year's 'secret' space. Culinary and culture enthusiasts dressed in white converged upon a secret locale for an unforgettable evening of elegance, beauty and magic. Attendees came prepared with tables, chairs, non-disposable supplies, food, wine and floral arrangements. Evening festivities included napkin waving, sparkler lighting, live music, dinner, and dancing. More than 2,000 people participated in this year's feast. |
The "dinner in white," which began humbly in 1988, is now attended by thousands at some of the best-known Parisian spaces. That year, François Pasquier returned to Paris after a few years abroad and held a dinner party to reconnect with friends. So many wanted to come that he asked them to convene at the Bois de Boulogne and to dress in white, so they could find each other! |
