| Down among the sheltering palms of Palm Beach this past New Year's Eve, the Coconuts held their annual bash, and it was reported to be the most fun in many years as they invited a younger crowd to join them, improved the music (younger also) and added some new bar areas. David Koch provided three barges of fabulous, unbelievable fireworks perfectly orchestrated with a hip soundtrack (with the help of Bronson Van Wyck). Guests returned to the black (versus white) dinner jackets. Alex Fanjul (younger brother of Pepe and Alfy) was crowned the new King Coco, and everybody had a wonderful time. |

| The 2014 Caron & Hanley Treatment Centers Gala will be held Friday, Jan. 24, at The Breakers, Palm Beach. Proceeds from the Caron & Hanley Treatment Centers Gala benefit the Lifesaver Patient Aid Fund, which provides financial assistance to individuals requiring substance abuse treatment who could not otherwise afford it. In the midst of a social season ripe with black-tie events, the "un-gala" atmosphere draws hundreds each year for an evening of casual revelry in an exquisite venue. The storied Mediterranean and Venetian ballrooms will be set with glimmering lights and undersea details inspired by the photography of Christopher Leidy of Leidy Images. |

| American Friends of The Hebrew University kicked off the 2014 Scopus Award Gala at a private reception in Palm Beach. The Scopus Award Gala will be held on Saturday, January 18th at The Breakers, where a special performance will be presented by American singer and Broadway actress Morgan James. The kickoff reception took place Dec. 19th and honored the chairmen and executive committee members for the Gala. Special guests at the reception were Ambassador Stuart A. Bernstein and Wilma Bernstein who will be honored at the gala. Others attending the cocktail buffet reception were Michelle and Joseph Jacobs, and 2014 Scopus event chairman Roberta and Stanley Bogen, Suellen and Melvyn Estrin, Barbara and Richard Rothschild, Judy and Robert Snyder and Robbi and Bruce Toll. |

| An elegant and entertaining evening, this black-tie Gala includes a cocktail reception, followed by dinner, an awards presentation to those who have shown extraordinary support to Hebrew University, followed by a professional performance. The event gets its name from Mount Scopus, the historical site of The Hebrew University in Jerusalem. The Scopus Award Gala leads off the weekend of events presented by American Friends of Hebrew University. The following day, on January 19th, the popular Annual Leadership Education Forum (ALEF) 2014 will be held at The Four Seasons Hotel in Palm Beach, which brings together Hebrew University experts and other leading individuals to discuss a spectrum of vital issues. Among these are Middle East Affairs and national security, medical breakthroughs important to human health, and progress in brain science. |

| “Advancing Israel’s Future: Building Bridges to Peace, Transforming Medicine and Brain Sciences, Pioneering Technology and Innovation” is the title of this year’s conference, which will include breakfast and lunch, as well as the program, featuring keynote speaker William Kristol, the founder and editor of The Weekly Standard, a Washington, D.C.-based journal of politics and ideas. An author, who was a regular panelist on FOX News Sunday, Mr. Kristol now appears on leading political talk shows. His presentation at ALEF will be “America’s Shifting Role in the Middle East." |

| As the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium prepares for its April 4 major fundraiser – “The Tech Revolution: An Evening with Steve ‘Woz’ Wozniak,” event leadership and key donors were honored recently with a special reception held at the newly expanded Science Center venue. For some, it was a first time experiencing the magic of the Center’s new aquarium and exhibit space, opened this past summer. For many, the special opportunity to visit the Center’s much lauded blockbuster Titanic exhibit was a highlight of the evening. Even the stunning fashion presentation by Gala sponsor, Saks Palm Beach, showcased beautiful silhouettes evocative of the Titanic’s glory days. |

| The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, formerly known as the South Florida Science Museum, recently completed a $5 million expansion and renovation, and Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition is currently open in the Center’s Quantum Hall of Exploration. With a new mission to “open every mind to science,” the Science Center now features more than 50 hands-on educational exhibits, an 8,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, Science on a Sphere, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall and an interactive Everglades exhibit. |

| A Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist for more than 30 years, Steve Wozniak has helped shape the computing industry with his design of Apple’s first line of products – the Apple I and II, and influenced the popular Macintosh. In 1976 Wozniak and Steve Jobs founded Apple Computer, Inc., with Wozniak’s Apple I personal computer. Currently he serves as chief scientist for Fusion-io and is a published author.
