On Thursday, January 30th, The China Arts Foundation, along with Fudan Alumni Association in New York, hosted a fundraising dinner at Le Cirque to celebrate the Chinese New Year with a musical program by YU Long (Artistic Director of the China Philharmonic Orchestra).

On January 30th, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) raised more than $620,000 at its Palm Beach Hot Pink Luncheon & Symposium. Founded by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993, the New York nonprofit has held the Florida fundraiser for the past 11 years to drive global research efforts to find cures and improve survivorship for millions of patients worldwide.

Held at The Breakers, the benefit drew more than 350 BCRF supporters from Florida as well as New York. Co-chairman of the foundation and Palm Beach resident, Leonard A. Lauder and BCRF President & CEO Myra Biblowit hosted the event with Alina Cho of CNN and ABC News, who stepped in to replace Barbara Walters. Ms. Walters will now host the 2015 luncheon.

"Palm Beach has always been extremely generous to BCRF," Mr. Lauder said. "With the community's support, our grantees, who are truly some of the most brilliant minds in science and medicine, can forge ahead to make a discernible difference in the battle against breast cancer and all cancers."

"The world is a better place because of Evelyn Lauder and her commitment to preventing and curing breast cancer," Ms. Cho said as she took the stage. "BCRF is a shining testament to her vision. The money BCRF has raised is having an impact beyond breast cancer as their scientists are furthering our knowledge of all cancers. In that way, BCRF has a reach and relevance far greater than even Evelyn dared dream."

BCRF Scientific Director, Dr. Larry Norton, and Chairman of BCRF's Scientific Advisory Board, Dr. Clifford Hudis, both of New York's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, led a discussion about breast cancer risk and preventative measures with grantees, Dr. Nadine Tung, Dr. Kenneth Offit and Joan Marks. Since its founding, BCRF has grown from funding eight grantees in the U.S. to 210 researchers at renowned medical institutions across six continents.

"Our grantees have made tremendous strides in prevention, treatment and understanding the biology of cancer," Biblowit said. "But with cancer's threat growing around the world, BCRF is steadfast in its commitment to fuel the research of tomorrow needed to save lives today."

The Palm Beach fundraiser has brought in $4 million since its inception, helping BCRF to raise more than $475 million for medical research over its 20 years.

The James Jay Dudley Luce Foundation honored two young leaders making a difference on a global level at its Third annual Luce Leadership Awards Ceremony & Reception at Skadden Arps in Times Square this past Monday evening.

The 2014 theme for the awards ceremony was "It Takes a Team to Support Young Global Leadership" – recognizing the Arts, Education and Orphan Care in India, Indonesia, Haiti, Sri Lanka and the United States. Recipients were chosen on their ability to better humanity, either in the United States or abroad, by displaying characteristics of honor, intelligence, benevolence and integrity.

This year's awards recipients were Jesse Pollans (Motivated to Make a Change) and Joey Lowenstein (Breaking the Barriers of Autism). Music was provided by the Arts Global Foundation. Jitin Hingorani, a J. Luce Foundation global advisor and CEO of JINGO Media, emceed the evening and the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United Nations, His Excellence Dr. Palitha Kohona, delivered the keynote address.
