This past Monday night at the Mandarin Oriental, New Yorkers for Children hosted its Annual Spring Dinner Dance New Year’s in April; A Fool’s Fete to benefit youth in foster care in New York City. This is a very successful party. Everyone puts their best foot forward, the women dress, there’s dinner, dancing, as well as honoring those who are benefiting from NYFC’s program for helping young people transition from foster care to adult life.

Last Tuesday night at Cipriani 42nd Street, the nation’s design industry elite gathered at the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club’s annual President’s Dinner to celebrate the organization’s most highly-anticipated Show House season to date. The black tie event, hosted by Architectural Digest and Kravet Inc., was chaired by Editor-in-Chief Margaret Russell and celebrated designer Bunny Williams. Dinner Vice-Chairs include designers Jamie Drake, Victoria Hagan, Alexa Hampton and Richard Mishaan.

The gala honored design visionary Ralph Pucci, founder of Ralph Pucci International, one of the world’s premier showrooms of art, furniture and lighting, as well as Annabel Palma, City Councilwoman for New York City’s District 18 and longtime supporter of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club in the Bronx. The evening concluded with a special performance by members of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. Total funds raised at the President’s Dinner exceeded $670,000.

As a prelude to Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club’s largest fundraising event of the year, the Decorator Show House, the President’s Dinner raises money to provide more than 12,000 young people at ten locations throughout the Bronx with essential after-school and enrichment programs. The Kips Bay Show House, which invites the country’s premier interior decorators and architects to transform a luxury Manhattan space into a month-long exhibition of design, attracts more than 20,000 visitors each year.

This year’s Show House will make an unprecedented venue shift as it takes over The Mansion on Madison, Manhattan’s iconic Villard Mansion adjacent to The Palace Hotel. Located at 457 Madison Avenue, this year’s Show House will be transformed by some of the nation’s most acclaimed designers including Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Vicente Wolf, and Tony Ingrao and Randy Kemper.

At this year's dinner, Baruch student Catherine Ochoa, a sophomore majoring in management of musical enterprises, performed a song. Catherine (or Cathia, as she is better known), made it into the Top 16 overall contestants and Top 4 on "Team Usher," during the 2013 season of the reality TV talent show, "The Voice."

One of Stony Brook University's own, long-time conservationist and lemur expert, Dr. Patricia C. Wright, was honored at the Stony Brook Foundation's annual fundraising gala, Stars of Stony Brook on April 16th at New York's Chelsea Piers. The benefit raised more than $4 million which supports student scholarships and global health initiatives in Madagascar.

Dr. Wright was feted by her University, before 650 guests, as well as via a tribute video including Morgan Freeman, Academy Award® winner and narrator of IMAX documentary "Island of Lemurs: Madagascar," Drew Fellman, writer and producer of IMAX documentary "Island of Lemurs: Madagascar" and Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group.
