| The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) celebrated its 27th annual National Equal Justice Award Dinner, on November 12, 2013 at the Hilton New York Hotel and Towers, 1335 Avenue of the Americas (between 53rd and 54th Streets) in New York City. The evening began at 6:30 pm with a reception, followed by the dinner and program at 7:30 pm. The program ended at 9:30 pm, and guests were invited to enjoy live jazz music and dessert immediately following the program. |

| This year LDF presented three awards. George Soros: Philanthropist and founder of the Open Society Foundations and international supporter of ideals and causes for more than 30 years received the National Equal Justice Award. This award was presented to Mr. Soros by Raymond J. McGuire, Global Head, Corporate and Investment Banking for Citi. David Mills: Professor of Law at Stanford Law School, a life-long advocate for social justice and a Co-Chair of the LDF Board of Directors received the Thurgood Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award. This award was presented to Mr. Mills by Theodore V. Wells, Jr., Partner and Co-Chair of Litigation, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. Soledad O'Brien: Award-winning journalist, producer and distinguished Visiting Fellow at Harvard University received the LDF Spirit of America Award. Ms. O'Brien's award was presented by Sherrilyn A. Ifill, LDF's 7th President and Director-Counsel. |

| Susan Fales-Hill, author and television producer, was this year's Mistress of Ceremonies. LDF Board Members Angela Vallot, Partner, VallotKarp Consulting and Judith Byrd, President, Byrd Retail Group served as Co-Chairs of NEJAD. Gabriella Morris, a member of the LDF Board and former President of the Prudential Foundation and Laurie Robinson Haden, Senior Vice President & Assistant General Counsel, CBS, served as Vice chairs of NEJAD. Special highlights included a video that provided a glimpse of LDF's present challenges. LDF is America's premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. |

| On Wednesday, November 20, 2013 the Winter Antiques Show Committee and East Side House Settlement celebrated the inaugural Expert Eye Evening, a new program initiated by the Winter Antiques Show (WAS) to create additional opportunities to highlight the Show's exhibitors—"expert eyes"—and their unparalleled expertise. This first event was hosted by Carlton Hobbs LLC, a globally respected dealer in antiques and exhibitor at the WAS, housed within a stunning, five-story, Beaux-Arts mansion in Manhattan. The Winter Antiques Show's 60th year Diamond Jubilee will be held at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City from January 24th-February 2nd, 2014. Over 150 guests perused a variety of rarely showcased 17th, 18th and 19th century British and Continental pieces of furniture and works of art, while mingling and having the opportunity to meet with Carlton Hobbs and his longtime business partner Stefanie Rinza.Arie Kopelman, Chairman of the WAS, graciously thanked the crowd in attendance, while Dealers Committee Chairman, Elizabeth Feld of Hirschl & Adler Galleries, Inc., explained the unique educational mission of the WAS in coordinating the Expert Eye Evening series. |

| The Winter Antiques Show celebrates its 60th year Diamond Jubilee as America's most prestigious antiques show, featuring 73 renowned experts in American, English, European, and Asian fine and decorative arts in a fully vetted Show. The Show was established in 1955 by East Side House Settlement, a social services institution located in the South Bronx. All net proceeds from the Show benefit East Side House Settlement. The Winter Antiques Show will run from January 24-February 2, 2014, at the Park Avenue Armory, 67th Street and Park Avenue, New York City. | Over 900 supporters Kicked Up their Heels and Stepped Out for Pink, raising $1.3 million, at the Breast Cancer Alliance 18th Annual Luncheon & Fashion Show on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. Kathy Clark, president of Breast Cancer Alliance, was proud to announce that the organization has raised more than $18 million over the past 18 years. The event, which was sponsored by Mitchells|Richards, was co-chaired by Julie Johnson and Loren Taufield. Twelve breast cancer survivors, both male and female, took to the runway modeling fashion by the esteemed clothier. |

| The featured guest speaker at the luncheon was Pat Battle, co-anchor for "Weekend Today in New York" and senior correspondent assigned to NBC4. Her message was clear: "Early detection saves lives." Dr. Elisa Port, Battle's surgeon and chief of breast surgery, co-director of the Dubin Breast Center at Mt. Sinai Hospital, as well as a member of the Breast Cancer Alliance Medical Advisory Board, said, "Mammograms are one of the most basic screening tests. It is simply indisputable that mammograms save lives." In fall 2010, Battle was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery. Since then, she has documented her personal journey, including sharing her story in an hour-long special "Talk for a Cure", which aired on "Weekend Today" and earned two New York Emmy nominations. The show brought an unprecedented response from viewers. Hundreds of women reached out to Battle, many of who had never had a mammogram. |

| Teachers College, Columbia University launched an unprecedented $300 million fundraising campaign on Tuesday evening, November 12, to mark the College's 125th anniversary and to bolster its capacity for transforming education and learning throughout the 21st century. The college announced that it already had raised $144 million – nearly half – toward that goal. President Susan H. Fuhrman kicked off the campaign – the largest ever for a graduate school of education – at a gala event at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem. The gala celebrated Teachers College's century-long legacy of pioneering new fields in education, health, psychology, and leadership, its thriving partnerships with public schools in Harlem and throughout New York City, and visionary philanthropists who have supported those endeavors. |

| The evening was highlighted by an announced bequest intention to Teachers College from the singer and actress Barbra Streisand. The bequest will enable Teachers College to create the Emanuel and Barbra Streisand Scholarship Fund, a general fund that will support TC master's degree and doctoral students. Streisand's father, Emanuel Streisand, was a lifelong educator who was working toward a Ph.D. in Guidance and Personnel at Teachers College when he died. |

| Teachers College honored five leaders, advocates and philanthropists for their contributions to education, the arts, and the betterment of humanity. The honorees were: • Husband-and-wife team, legendary singer Tony Bennett and educator Susan Benedetto'98, for their contributions to arts education through their nonprofit organization, Exploring the Arts; • James P. Comer, M.D., Child Psychiatrist, Associate Dean of the Yale School of Medicine and member of the Board of Trustees of Teachers College, for his work in psychosocial development as a key factor in children's educational success; • Jeffrey Immelt, Chairman and CEO of GE, who will receive the Cleveland E. Dodge Medal for Distinguished Service to Education for his and GE's exemplary support of education and impact on the next generation of learners; and • Laurie M. Tisch, President of the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Teachers College, for her philanthropy and leadership in education, health, the arts and nutrition. |

The gala event raised $1.25 million, all of which will support student scholarships at Teachers College, the oldest and largest graduate school of education in the country. |

| Earlier last month on Veterans Day, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) held its Awards Gala for the first time in Washington, DC, bringing together over 1,400 distinguished guests to its 25th Awards celebration. The red carpet at the Washington Hilton spilled over with celebrity and paparazzi awaiting the star-studded guest list, especially the appearance of comedian, Dr. Bill Cosby, who was hosting the evening. It was a real homecoming for the former “Huxtable” man as he was he was greeted by an old friend, Virginia Ali, the owner of Ben's Chili Bowl, D.C. Later during he standup, Cosby quipped, "Virginia even taught me to take my first, "half smoke." |

| Last year, the TMCF gala in New York was cancelled due to Sandy Hurricane. The event opened with a salute to our nation’s veterans including General Dennis L. Via and Lt. General Arthur J. Gregg (Ret.). Jennifer Holliday, flowing in a magenta organza silk gown, looking shapely chic, surprised the audience opening the awards show, by standing stage center-motionless hitting each high note as well as the first time she ever sang "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going." The audience gave her a five minute standing ovation. |
